How To Become A Costume Designer Workshop

Gain an understanding of the principles of costume design and learn how costume defines and supports a character in a script.

This workshop will help you become prepared to step into a role in this fascinating and highly creative project-based learning led by our professional instructors and industry experts in the performing arts sector. Our hands-on workshop in wardrobe history will help you to build a portfolio fit for your career as a costume designer.

Costume History

⮚ Introduction to form, line, methods, and construction throughout history

⮚ Understanding historical garments through a fun process of trying on a variety of different historical costumes

⮚ How to identify fashion trends

⮚ Introduction to basic colour theory, historical & social relevance of colour, and developing a colour palette

⮚ Introduction to considerations of fabric in garments and how to source fabric

⮚ How to work within a fixed budget

⮚ How to alter, steam and prepare your wardrobe selection for you upcoming film shoot or play

Theatrical Makeup with Iconic Characters Workshop

Inspired by iconic characters from musicals and beyond, learn to apply makeup like a pro and gain an arsenal of skills for your next event!

Through a fun and hands-on approach to learning, students will learn by doing, following along with the teacher to create each look with support and skill building along the way. End each class with a finished look ready to photograph and share on social media if you so desire or take it to your next event!

Basic Colour Theory: Learn colour matching and blending for a natural finish

Product Familiarity: Get acquainted with a variety of makeup products and tools such as latex, face paints, blood gels, wax, and prosthetics
